Adults Need Help Too | Some Big News!

I got into this whole world of executive functions because of my own brain’s challenges.

The origins of Seeing My Time started with developing a different way to think about the relationship between time and space as it relates to time management. I first devised ways to help myself, but pretty quickly got caught up in helping families who had a struggling child. Thus my focus in designing SMT was on the students. At the time I wasn’t thinking much about parents – the adults at the table. In my mind they were just there to understand how to best support their child.

Well, my focus has broadened. This August, for five weeks, my schedule was packed – five days a week, six hours of clients each day. In the past, these clients were families getting ready for school. This year, almost HALF of my clients were solo adults.

Adults Need Help Too

The reality is that adults arrive to these sessions with the same issues as students. Time management challenges, rooted in their brain’s executive function system, causes them serious stresses at work and at home.

As I worked to help them, I had to face a critical gap in SMT for the adult client. They needed a simple and effective way to to keep their SMT day and week plans in sight and accessible. They couldn’t manage the time forms which I know they needed to support their brain. As I shared my own “system” I acknowledged my own frustration that it was rather clunky and could easily turn into a frustrating pile if I was not careful (This is what happened in August…).

We Needed a Better Tool

Planning our next project at the beach!

Once the August crush was over, I took my team to the beach for a couple of days to both rejuvenate and focus on what is next for EFS. While there are so many voices calling for our help, we have chosen to focus our energies on a new product to support our ever-growing community. It is the Seeing My Time@ Planner – Much More Than a Calendar.

It has been an exciting time as we collaborated on the design of a planner to help the time-challenged. Every page aligns with what I teach in Seeing My Time. We got a huge survey response from past clients and incorporated their feedback as best we could. (Thank you everyone!!)

My whole life, I have been hunting for the perfect planner to support my brain’s time-management challenges. When there wasn’t one available, I decided to create it myself! Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on this planner for 2018!
